Twitter

I recently signed up for an account on the latest cool Web 2.0 application, Twitter, because I guess just about everyone is doing it. I wanted to try it out and see how it goes. Here is my page on Twitter if you would like to check it out or follow me. So far, I have written just a few entries.

I'll most likely post links to interesting stuff that I find as well as answering that important question that comes up often on Twitter, "What am I doing?". As of now, the latest update gives a hint of what is to come tomorrow here on the Closet.

I am wondering what my visitors think about all of this. Do any of you also use Twitter?

  1. Twitter is fun and somewhat addictive. It's as useful or useless as you make it.

Also, check out 3rd party apps & sites, like Twhirl, www.tweetgrid.com, etc.

Search for people who are already tweeting about things you are interested in. Have fun!

  2. I use Twitter as a very small RSS feed reader with an application called Twitterrific. The feeds are processed by the site Twitterfeed. I also follow several incarnations of Buddha and Woot from Twitter directly. Do I know what I'm doing? Certainly not. I just wanted a reader that didn't take up my whole screen or contain more than 140 characters per entry.

  3. that app seemed a little redundant to me.
also seemed well beyond how "in touch" i prefer to be.
maybe it'll be outdone by something more useful or maybe i'll eventually rejoin.

thanks for keeping the posts coming, by the way.
    much appreciated!

  4. I find that Twitter could potentially become addictive. However, I am not used to it yet. I'm sure it will be more fun when I am used to how it works.
I'll have to check out those apps that you folks suggested.

    dogbeardbirdbeer,

Twitter seems a little redundant to me too. It's really another blog application but with a limit of 140 characters for each post and without all of the features (posting images, imbedding video and audio, choice of font, colors, size, etc.). So far, communicating on Twitter is awkward to me (no feature for others to comment on posts; all responses or comments are done on the user's own Twitter page).
I'll continue to use it for a while as it seems a good place to post links to stuff I find and I can stay focused on posting records from my collection (and other peoples' collections) for this blog.
I think that right now Blogger, Wordpress, and other blog services are more useful than Twitter. Twitter is good for posting quick updates though.

  5. Twitter? So far, I'm not convinced to participate. I've rather tried to reduce the cognitive noise in my environment, for example, by getting rid of the TV, using adblock while browsing etc.

Nevertheless, the Iranian elections have proven that it can be of social use.
