György Ligeti - György Ligeti [5-LP set]
This set is an excellent overview of avant-garde composer György Ligeti's music from just about all periods of his career. This includes pieces for string quartet (Streichquartett Nr. 1, Streichquartett Nr.2), electronic music (Artikulation, Glissandi), organ (Etüden Nr.1, Etüden Nr.2, Volumina), harpsichord (Continuum), chamber music (Kammerkonzert, Ramifications), orchestra (Konzert für Violoncello und Orchester, Lontano, San Francisco Polyphony, Atmosphères) and choral/vocal (Requiem, Aventures, Lux aeterna). I've wanted to post the 2001 soundtrack as an accompaniment to the earlier 2001 post (Arthur C. Clarke reading), but I believe it's been posted several times elsewhere so I hope this is an adequate substitute as at least there is more music by the most fascinating composer on the soundtrack.

ReplyDeleteI have this LP set, but it's really wonderful to see it here, and I want to take the opportunity to tell you how much I appreciate your blog and all your great posts -- so much wonderful music. Thank you very much!
ReplyDeleteThank you SO much! Brilliant, brilliant post!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous post, really! It's my first check of Ligeti's opus, the string quartets are wonderful...
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic share, this is marvelous! I might suggest adding the label, year-of-release, and/or performers' names into your post, if you are inclined to do so; I'm downloading the stuff anyway, since it would be wonderful to have a rip from vinyl, though it might be useful info for those who are not quite as completist as me. Thanks again for this; just terrific.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the nice comment, Enrique. I appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteTheo, you're welcome.
Dirkson, thanks. You take care too.

You're welcome, Justin
Thanks, chino
grasp.release, you're welcome. I do have the information that you're asking for in the scanned liner notes from the booklet. The scans are placed in the rar. files and scattered throughout the files. I wanted to place info about each piece in the file where the piece is, but a few of them do cut off because of the way the liner notes are written.
I should have definitely written the performers' names in the post along with other info like year of release and will be sure to do that in future posts. Your feedback is appreciated.
NP, G.calx....a small unimportant detail. You've outdone yourself. So many thanks for the scans as well. Labour o' luv!
ReplyDeleteThank you for this. I have never had so much Ligeti and it's utterly fascinating.
ReplyDeleteThis is my first foray into Ligeti's work aside from his pieces in "The Shining." I am exceptionally excited by this and the nature of your blog as a whole.

ReplyDeleteAmazing post!!! But- if you're correct that this is a 6 l.p. set,I've got to wonder- where are sides 11 and 12? I've NEVER seen this set before. BRAVO!
ReplyDeleteDr Eyescope,
ReplyDeleteThere was no 6th LP in the set. I am not aware of any other editions of this release that has 6 LPs.
Then again, the 6th LP may be in the same room as the Holy Grail. ;)
