To me, this recording represents a unique fusion of "environmental" and "intuitive" music, a really enchanting experience.

The Deep Listening Band spent a week in the cave preparing for the concert. Panaiotis used this time exploring different areas to find acoustic "hot spots, where things really blossom and resonate." ...
Where Panaiotis recalls the incessant and omnipresent mosquitoes of The Tarpaper Cave, trombonist Stuart Dempster remembers "the capriciousness of the lighting... mists blowing down with changes in the weather... it was like Valhalla from time to time..."

This way to Valhalla: (1)
the .rar files have one track each that won't un-rar for some reason... i've downloaded them twice each and it's the same file each time, which makes me suspect that the problem is in the pre-compression stage. the problem tracks are 06 Trog Arena in both part 1 and part 2.
ReplyDeleteapart from that, this is wonderful stuff. i studied with dennis smith in the 1970s, and i'm glad to he's still in circulation. 8)
hybridelephant, I had no problems with unpacking these files. I was able to unpack "Trog Arena" and it plays. I believe that you did not have both .rar files available when you unpacked them. These were compressed with the split function used which means that both split files have to be present when you unpack them or you won't get all of the tracks.
ReplyDeleteH.C., you've already started posting delightful stuff before my pre-scheduled post with my hiatus message showed up.
ReplyDeleteI've just started having a listen at this and like the first commenter, hybridelephant said, it sounds wonderful.
Hybridelephant!
ReplyDeleteYou probably downloaded the files from different providers, which can result in slight changes of filenames. To unrar, both files must have IDENTICAL names (except for the indicator, of course).
Grey!
Before reading your announcement, I just decided to step up with my posting pace a little. I have some very rare, nice and interesting items waiting to be posted, and new mixes for "Hush!Caution!Echoland!". And you have a good time away.
I won't get to have a good time that much while I'm gone. Most of the time will be taken up by serious business which is why I won't have any time to post anything. I barely have a few minutes available to check on comments and even respond.
ReplyDeleteThanks for keeping this blog going while I'm out. I look forward to your shares and new mixes. Hopefully, everything will be taken care of in real life and I can get back to posting.
aha! the split function is something that my linux machine doesn't understand... fortunately i have a windows machine that does understand it... thanks! 8)
