Harry Partch and John Cage - Music of Harry Partch and John Cage
I received this in the form of a CD-R some time ago. There is not much information about this that came with the CD-R. What I know is that this is ripped from an LP copy that has Partch's music on one side and Cage's music on the other side. David Tudor performed on the piano on Cage's pieces. Partch's pieces are songs with Harry himself on vocals accompanied by instruments that Partch built. The LP was originally released in 1978.

I love "The Dreamer that Remains" . . . Rehearsed the vocal parts with some friends but never performed it.
ReplyDeletebtw/ Lucky is around . . . cool!
Thanks for the new posts M.Calyx. It's always quite a pleasure!
Thanks, Lucky. The Discogs page helped. I remembered that there is a large booklet of liner notes attached to the LP, but, of course, I never received a copy of the liner notes.
ReplyDeleteI got in touch with my friend this weekend (who I haven't talked to for who knows how long). I asked if he would sometime make me a copy of the liner notes from the LP. He said that he doesn't have time right now to type the liner notes and he couldn't scan them without doing any damage to the record jacket or the booklet. He recommended that I should try the label's website to see if there are any liner notes or additional info on the LP.
I managed to find a page about the LP and a .pdf file of the liner notes which can be viewed here
HEY, VAUBU!!! YOU, WHO COMMENTED ABOVE!!! NICE TO SEEEEEEEEEE YOU!!! ;)
ReplyDeletegc - the .pdf's from new world records are great! i'm just wondering why not every rec. company is making it that way - you get so much info on the records, at the end you HAVE to buy it simply while the curiosity gets too much (or in the closet!).
have some nice holidays, grey calx!
lucky
long live Harry Partch!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid, they had this LP at the local public library. My friend Matt and I took it out and it was one of our firs exposures to the real avant-garde. We didn't get it at the time, but it's great to hear it again. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI happened to see Joe's comment about find this one at the public library. Oddly enough that was my first exposure to what the avant-garde had to offer. In fact the library had tons of New World record releases I checked out when I was about 14, all in not so great shape, but I still taped them all on a collection of Maxell XL II cassettes (remember the type with the gold foil mylar labels?). Years later a friend from Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, VA informed me that their station was getting rid of all their LP's and I'd better get what I wanted before the College trashed them. Lo and behold, they had most of the New World record series from the mid-to-late 70's on one shelf, never played and never touched. I thought I had died and gone to heaven.
ReplyDeleteEGAD! I have DREAMS like K McNutt's experience above, but I never get the damned records out of the Building, let alone the Dream..."The Dreamer That Remains" remains my favorite Partch piece, and I LOST my cassette from-the-library copy and have wanted this for AGES. Thank You.

ReplyDeleteThe Mediafire link is still good from my end. I'm sure all of the links in Mirror Creator are dead and I am guessing one of those links were removed for violation.
