I discovered this cute little 10" record ages ago in the collection of a friend. I guess some relative or friend had given it to her as a souvenir. There was only text in Thai on the cover, except for the label abbreviation and release number, but the colourful and stylish comic-art-like cover attracted immediately my attention.Listening to the record, I found that it contained just three pieces in different tempi, with a total playing time of about 12 minutes. But I also found that the short duration was completely compensated for by the beauty and tranquility of the music itself. Like me, you will probably hit the "play" button again after the last piece ends. And again.I have no idea what this music is about, but it's probably - obviously - made for dancing. The first piece features a solo lute-like instrument, backed by a small percussion group in a gently flowing rhythm. A beautifully played sing-along tune; note how they go into a great accelerando near the end. The other two pieces are played by a gamelan-like ensemble (just percussion) with the metallophones replaced by instruments I can't recognize (probably something like bamboo-phones). Backing rhythms are played by bells, gongs and drums. Again, strong captivating melodies and hypnotic tempo changes.Since I didn't xerox or photograph the original cover, I've made some Ersatz artwork for this post.
