Music of Henri Lazarof

Henri Lazarof - Music of Henri Lazarof

Third Chamber Concerto for Twelve Soloists (1974)

Performed by the Contemporary Chamber Ensemble.

The composition is in one movement and its form is defined by the distribution of materials through its continuously shifting groups of duos, trios, quartets, sextets and with occasional appearances of soli. The Third Chamber Concerto continues to explore elements of structural media and textural aspects which were already at work in the preceding two Chamber Concerti: "Espaces" for 10 players and "Omaggio" for 19 players.

Cadence VI for Tuba and Tape (1973)

Performed by Roger Bobo - tuba

It was commissioned by and dedicated to Roger Bobo who first performed it at the First National Symposium at the University of Illinois. A short work of a rather "espressivo" nature, "Cadence VI" uses a tape consisting of pre-recorded tuba.

"Duo-1973" for Cello and Piano

Performed by Gabor Rejto - cello and Alice Rejto - piano

The overall free form allows both performers to explore the work independently as well as equal partners. From a hesitant and rather mystic beginning, the piece progresses through a slow display of its events with a gradual increase in dynamic tensions reaching a climactic ending with a short "Hommage a Ludwig" quotation.

"Adieu" for Clarinet (Bass Clarinet) and Piano (1974)

Performed by Gary Gray - clarinet and Irma Vallecillo - piano

It's introspective character becomes apparent from the very beginning and continues to be the leading element until the very end. Passages marked "as slow as possible" and accompanied with quarter tones and multiphonics are prevalent throughout the composition. (from the liner notes)

  1. This record is worth it just for Roger Bobo's Cadence VI, but the rest is great also.
